Non-wedding related: On Books and Reading

I think there should be a written and well-published rule:
"Mind your comments about other people's book of interest. You might embarrass yourself without knowing it"

I had read, and re-read most of the books that I have, especially the ones I greatly favored.

Yep, read and re-read.

And it is a cycle that I enjoy. The most I did was to read all 7 HP books more than twice, the first and the second about 5 times just because the succeeding books took time to be written, I just couldn't get enough.

Imagine what you'd feel about comments I got, if you were in my shoes:

"Oh, that is a good book, you will like it!"
"Oh in which part are you? are you on the *spoiler part* when he did this and that?"
"You just started on that now?! Oh my, hurry up, I want us to talk about it!"

Homaygawd.
if I can only stab you in the face.

I just feel that it is not a glorious thing if you have read a particular book first.
I also think that it is not prestige to be a bookworm, everyone had their own interest here and there. Oh and, if you brag about being a reader, please... mind your communication skills. Mind your grammar. Your punctuation. I hate to see you make mistakes when you brag about reading. Now, that's wrong, let me rephrase. I hate to see you make mistakes when you think that being a wide read is something to brag about

Disclaimer: not saying I have perfect grammar. But I have perfect teeth to bite your face! Stay away and just let me re-read my damn book!

(My) Our Ever-Changing Wedding Motif

RED
Why did I like it:
Since our wedding will be in February, I chose red. I hope the reason is pretty obvious.
No need to rent a bridal car, our car is red.
Marlon had almost always chosen red roses for me.
A long time ago, I saw a picture of a bride with red roses for her bouquet, and it perfectly matched the dresses of her bridesmaids. The bridesmaids were holding white calla lilies, and I find the photo very nice.

why i changed it:
I find the local red roses too dark.
I saw the set up of the caterer using red flowers and their caption was something like: "traditional set up which SOME couples still like"

JEWEL TONES
Why did I like it:
I saw a picture on the internet and find it nice.
Would give my bridesmaids options for the color of their dress, afterall, they are the ones who are going to pay for it.
No need to rent a bridal car, ours is red and red is a jewel color.
I like colors. I can use the theme: 10 colorful years of our marriage (as previously stated, we are getting married to celebrate our 10th year anniversary)
Why I changed it:
I saw a pic on-line of a silly looking wedding and some prank wrote a caption: "wedding from crayola factory"
a close friend of mine also had jewel-themed wedding recently

PINK and Gray
Why I like it:
Pink is one of my favorite color. Adding gray will mean it is not just the bride's day but also the groom's.
Why I changed it:
Because i saw something better. Here goes:

PINK and Gray and Green
Why I like it:
see pink and gray
I saw a nice pic on-line
I thought, "since there will be flowers, then of course there's green (leaves)"
Why I changed it:
I realized looks dull to me.

PINK AND BLUE (Fuchsia and Navy or Fuchsia and Aquamarine or Fuchsia and Turquoise)
Why I like it:
Pink is for the bride, Blue is for the Groom
Why I changed it:
Seems too high school to me

PINK ORANGE BLUE
Why I like it:
I love extravagant splash of colors
Why I changed it:
Because I saw...

...PINK ORANGE GREEN
Why I like it:
It looks great!
Why I am contemplating if I have to find other colors:
We are 30 something. I find the colors suited for a 3-yr old girl's party. (Which I hope I will have a chance to celebrate, as I only have one kid. Already 4 years old. And a boy.

Oh somewhere in between those colors, I also thought of different shades of PINK"
Why I like it:
The song La Vie En Rose is my favorite love song (for how long I don't know) which means Shades of Pink or Life in Pink.
Why I am not so decided:
If we will chose La Vie En Rose as a theme, might as well serve French Food and have a French inspired decors. But WHY!? We are so NOT french. Haha!

I also looked at yellow (Sunshine - for some reason - was my nickname when I was a kid)

All these, is simply weird.
Did I tell you my favorite color is PURPLE?

** June 6: MAGENTA and LIGHT YELLOW
all female entourage members will be in magenta with light yellow flowers; bridesmaids on tulle, sponsors on lacy cloth-with lining of course, and flower girls g.satin. groomsmen and male sponsors barong with magenta buttonnaire.

Wedding Flowers: Royal Poinciana

I have been eyeing a Royal Poinciana Tree along Alabang-Zapote Road, specifically, near TS Cruz/DBP Village. Out of several trees lined from Madrigal to TS Cruz, there's this one tree boasting its colors, like a queen among the others with a crown overflowing with jewels...

Every morning from work, I get mesmerized with the trees' awesome, enchanting blooms and my bus rides were usually filled with thoughts on how to get this as my bridal flowers. "Maybe I can find it in Dangwa..." or "if I pay someone to climb the tree..." or "if I pay the guard/caretaker Php 2,000.00... if he refuses, I can pay as much as 5." or "maybe I can just have a stop over here, on my way to church - ball gown and all, despite the traffic and onlookers,  and strike a pose...I'm sure Fidlen would love to capture that" and so on...

I imagine my bouquet, we will put pink bougainvilleas and some green fillers.

Ah, the tree looks like a cherry blossom in orange. It is perfect. Flowers which I truly like love adore.

I have several months to go before my February wedding, I'm sure with my stubbornness, I will get it!

So I googled it.

Found it!

And lost it ;(

According to wiki, it blooms between March to April here in The Philippines.

Bridal Fair May 4

So we went to the Weddings and Beyond Bridal Fair and there were 2 things that got my attention:

1. Pillowcase Band

I fell in love with the band when I heard them sing. The music was not 'chaotic' to my ears, I mean these guys really belong together. They do not have the song "La Vie en Rose" though (at the time) which I find very unusual because I think that song has been sung a lot in weddings. But they played "Till There Was You" and I was very happy that day with Marlon. :) The band leader was easy to talk to, while talking to him I chanced to glance upon his fingers and I saw the marks of years of playing the guitar - I mean literally his fingertips are just about to explode, man! It was much worse than when I was pregnant and had to prick my fingers for glucose checks, but anyways, while looking at those worn, seemingly abused fingertips, I was just thinking: he really loves to play the guitar, and had a lot of years doing it, this is his passion!

Still waiting for the list of the songs which he said he's going to send, I can't say it is overdue as of yet. I also have not deposited the down payment, he didn't give any bank details and I think he will send it after I see the list of their songs

2. e-guestbook / Photobooth

With this one, I got so thrilled, I truly, want this for my wedding if only it will not take us over the budget. However, I really plan to stick to our budget, and  had to read and re-read my "Decision-Making List" just to keep myself from booking them.
The price is 25k, but if you book them during bridal fairs, you get them for 20k. The regular photobooth costs about 5k so it would mean that it will cost 15k above the budget we set for the wedding.

I'm sure the guests will enjoy this if only I can get it. They print it right away, too, just like the photobooth and people can even doodle their messages to their photo and all the files will be given to us in CD form. They can also take care of seating the guests to their respective places because they can display the seat plan. But I don't care much about that because, (1) I only have 100 guests and, (2) I am thinking of seat zoning (people allowed to sit anywhere within their zone, ex: family, friends, etc) Also if I will get them I want them to start maybe 2 hours before the reception ends, and here's why: the 20k package is only good for two hours, of course I don't want them to pack up and have other guests regret they didn't get their picture taken earlier, thinking they have a lot of time after eating.

I am actually prioritizing this rather than paying OTD (that's how much I like it!!!)
We'll see.
Oh... but i have to remind myself to stick to the budget!
Or do I?
LOL

Oh and we got freebies, too.

Some Ideas for our Wedding

PRE-NUP PHOTOS
I really hope that we can instruct Matt, my 5-year old son to take our photographs. That's the best way that I can get him to do something for us in our wedding aside from being our ring bearer. I don't want to have to pay for a prenup venue, I want the photographs to be taken in places that we frequent, like at Northgate when hubby drops me off to work (every single day, even after his own long day at work.) In the memorial park where we our first born son rests. In our house, in our garden. At the mall.

DIY
rose balls, pompoms, invites, save the date cards, map.

CENTERPIECES
i like submerged flowers, i saw on-line how beautiful and elegant they were. Unique, too, in my case I have not seen that in any of the events I have been to. But i like traditional flowers also. Hmmm, yet to decide on that one.

SONGS:
La Vie en Rose - we sing the tune once in a while especially when we are having a good time.
Some Beatles - hubby is a fan and I like some songs, too.
Eraserheads - our favorite!

PHOTOBOOTH (if i will have one)
I want the backdrop to be the whole wedding reception, so it has to be set up at the back.  :)

Practical Wedding by Choice

We had been married for 9 years. He proposed on our 9th wedding anniversary on February 12, 2014. ;)

We will have a church wedding for our 10th year anniversary.

My motto: do not live beyond your means;
so we will NOT be married beyond what we (hubby and I) can easily afford.

thus, we have a Decision-Making guide, here's the link:
Decision-Making Guide for our Wedding

Wedding: Basic Needs, Secondary Needs, Nice to Have

BASIC NEEDS:

1. Church - Shrine of the Five Wounds of Jesus Christ, Las Pinas City (nearest)

2. Venue - Dazo Hall, Philam Life Village, Las Pinas City (near, affordable, big - can hold twice my number of guests)

3. Caterer - Queensland Catering Services (i'm a repeat client, I love their food)

4. Requirements

5. Invitation - DIY but will have it printed by a pro somewhere

6. Sounds & Lights - 5th Element Lights and Sounds (have not booked yet)

7. Photographs and Video - Fidlen Miranda Creative Photography (a starting freelance photographer, co-worker, awesome shots, and I believe his heart is into it, and i mean REALLY into it. I trust him that he will create his best and that will be a plus, because what i NEED is just to document the wedding. I also have a backup photographer, my male bestfriend Mel who will go home from Singapore for my wedding, he has excellent shots based on what I saw on their weekend getaway with his then girlfriend, now wifey)

8. Wedding Gown - none yet, too early. can be RTW

9. Groom's Attire - hubby doesn't want to have a custom-made suit, he won't ever use it as he seldom needs a suit. He is decided that we will rent this

10. Matt David's Attire - our child, Matt, 5 years old by the time we will have the church wedding won't be needing a suit after the wedding, so definitely rent.

11. Rings -  we decided to have brand new wedding bands.

12. Cake - will be shouldered by my generous sponsor, I'm thinking getting 3 cakes from Tous Le Jours and rent the metal rack I saw at Red Ribbon, I just don't know if RR will let me rent it without ordering their cake. I am also inlove with Mer-Nel's but I have not yet inquired if they make wedding cakes.

13. HAIR AND MAKE-UP - Well, this is definitely a need but to breakdown the need from want (secondary need) and from nice to have: (1)Need - simple hair and make up by a gay stylist from a parlor; for my entourage: a friend and a relative; (2)Want - one who uses imported products. (3)Nice to have - airbrush stylist for me and my entourage

14. Flowers - I inquired with Flowers from Dangwa (they have a website and I think they deliver) and I might get them for the bridal bouquet, entourage flowers, and church flowers. We might also just buy fresh flowers because my father has a florist friend who used to be an official florist to a cruise line, isn't that a wow? Reception flowers are included in the catering package of Queensland.

15. OTD - I didn't know I need this since I have a friend who can do this for me but I want my friend to enjoy the wedding and not be stressed. Also, I read from a blog that if you really want to have a blissful wedding to sit back and enjoy, get a pro.

16. Emcee - I will have an emcee of course, but it will be one of my friends. The caterer offers an affordable emcee but I think I want an emcee referred by my future OTD (see secondary needs below)

17. Liquor - Should be VERY minimal at the reception - I browsed to 'what went wrong' blogs and there was a number of drunk guests (and bride and groom) who acted inappropriately. We  plan to have an after party, the drinks should be enough but that will be in our garden, where it is fun to be inappropriate ;)

18. GIVE-AWAYS - not decided yet. maybe a small bottle of honey since 'honey' or 'ne' is our term of endearment.

SECONDARY NEEDS (boundary of needs and wants)

1. Entourage Attire - most of my bridesmaids will shoulder their dresses as their gift for our wedding, so that's why this is not in the basic need list. if i have extra funds, I definitely will pay for their dresses but it will just be simple.

2. Emcee, professional -  referred by my future OTD so they can work together

3. Van or minibus - convenience for the guests. The reception venue by public transpo would take two rides - jeepney and tryke; it's about 20 minutes away (with the las pinas traffic issue); it is possible to borrow vehicle from the 'barangay'.

4. Photo booth - not a need, but I hear the phrase "what's a party without a photobooth" in my head ;)

5. Wedding Gown Upgrade - self explanatory but okay, here goes the description. The WG in the Basic Needs list is a wedding gown. This one is THE wedding gown (custom-made but not from famous designers)

6. Hotel - so that we will have beautiful background in the photographs of the preparation. I work in Northgate and I am in love with Northgate. If being practical is not in my blood, I would get no other than Bellevue. But still, the company where I work has a corporate package and employees can avail them. I called Bellevue and they won't release corporate rate info over the phone, said I have to go to the reception and show my ID. But their regular rate is Php 5,500 per night 3pm to 12nn so I need to book 2 days. And, this is just for the regular room for 2 persons, I have not yet asked for a bridal room so I dunno. Seems impractical for me. But still, Northgate is my second home. I feel peaceful when I am there. I love Northgate ;)

7. DIY Decors - seconday needs because the reception decors (simple) are included in the Catering Package. Though it would be nice to have handcrafted items because I look forward to crafty sessions with one or two cousins and few friends. I also want to show my crafty side in our wedding. But then, DIY doesn't mean cheap. I still have to spend on it so therefore, secondary need.

8. FLOWER GIRLS's DRESSES: Here's a secret plan, so don't tell anyone (tee hee). I want to sew their dresses. I have my own sewing machine. The budget for this will go under my 'learning-how-to-sew-budget' and not in the wedding budget. If I fail, we will just buy RTW lol

NICE TO HAVE

1. Sparklers - i love the effect that i saw in one of the photographs on-line. Will definitely make a good photograph during send off. This is a down-grade of what I originally want, the fire lanterns. (ooooohhh... just thinking of them make me feel lovely inside)

2. Balloons - I am not sure with this one because of a line in the Bee Movie about people choosing balloons over flowers that goes something like "awesome, if you are a kid"

3. HMUA with Airbrush - to have nice photographs but oh, well. not really a need if you are really practical.

4. Bridal Car - i want to use our own family car so this is the one of the lasts on the nice to have list.

Do you want to know how much the items in my Basic Needs List cost? Sure, I will let you know but only if you are planning a wedding on a budget, too. Of course I want to help. Let me know and I will email you ;)
